repost: Which Cities Sleep in, and Which Get to Work Early

Interesting article using American Community Survey data to analyse how early US metro cities get into work.

It’s amazing, these people are at work before I even wake up (usually 8:30-9am).

Two things I would like to point out:

1) Without enough sleep, you body cannot secrete enough Human Growth Factor. From wikipedia:

Growth hormone (GH or HGH), also known as somatotropin or somatropin, is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction and regeneration in humans and other animals.

2) I don’t trust that these people getting to work at 6:30, 7, 7:30 are actually getting out 8 or 9 hours later and able to have a life outside of work. Americans work on average 40+ hours per week and many many maannny of those hours are unpaid. Why do this to yourself? Also from wikipedia:

By 1946 the United States government had inaugurated the 40-hour work week for all federal employees.Beginning in 1950, under the Truman Administration, the United States became the first known industrialized nation to explicitly (albeit secretly) and permanently forswear a reduction of working time.
